The Dolneni Music Festival

Performers at the Dolneni Music Festival near Prilep in Central Macedonia. These women were singing a wonderful close harmony traditional song. The Dolneni Music Festival is held in late spring in a small natural amphitheatre in Dolneni, which is near the central Macedonian town of Prilep. When I attended in 1998 it was very uncommercial -- while some performers were from the cities, many were from the rural areas.
